Genetics Short Course

Workshop

The purpose of the Genetics Short Course for Cancer Nurses is to help nurses acquire more knowledge on basic and cancer genetics. We propose to do this by using the “train the trainer” method. Thus, all participants in the Short Course are asked to pass on the new information learned through the course by presenting at least one 4-hour genetics workshop (within six months after short course completion).

Workshop
The workshop is completely scripted and includes handouts, slides, and other materials in a presentation “toolkit” that participants receive upon successful completion of the Genetics Short Course exam. The presentation can be made to coworkers, other nurses at a participant’s facility, or students at a local school or college of nursing.

Remember that few nurses have any genetics knowledge at all. The Short Course is designed to fill in this gap so that participants will feel confident in presenting the workshop.
