Treatment Basics: Antineoplastic Therapy in the Non-Oncology Setting

Course Information

Goal

The goal of the ONS Treatment Basics Course is to provide basic education on the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy.

Target Audience

This course is designed for nurses in disciplines outside of oncology, those new to oncology, or individuals for whom the two‐day course would be more content than needed.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, the participant will be able to:

  1. Describe non-malignant indications for chemotherapy and biotherapy agents.
  2. Identify steps in the administration of chemotherapy and biotherapy agents: pre‐treatment, during treatment, and post-treatment.
  3. Discuss the assessment and management of side effects of therapy.
  4. Describe safe handling of hazardous drugs.
  5. State pertinent patient education related to chemotherapy and biotherapy.

Continuing Nursing Education

Participants who attend the ONS Treatment Basics Course may earn 4.0 contact hours upon completion of the program. Participants must complete the program evaluation in order to be granted continuing education credits for this program.

ONS is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Commission on Accreditation.

ANCCONS is approved as a provider of continuing education by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #2850.
