Common Threads

This workshop is designed to provide participants with an understanding of key concepts relevant to hormonal influences in the care of patients with breast and prostate cancer.

Through attendance at this workshop, participants will be able to:
  • Discuss hormonal influences on the development of and treatment for breast and prostate cancer.
  • Identify current endocrine treatments available for patients with breast cancer.
  • Discuss the indications and implications for hormonal therapy in prostate cancer.
  • Identify risk factors for bone loss in patients with breast and prostate cancer.
  • Describe therapies for treatment of osteoporosis.
  • Address the scope of the problem of hot flashes in breast and prostate cancer.
  • Discuss at least two current issues related to hot flash management.
  • Describe the impact of breast cancer and its treatment on the sexual response.
  • Identify at least two common sexual issues faced by the man with prostate cancer.
  • Discuss effective responses to questions and concerns related to sexual function during and after treatment for breast and prostate cancer.
  • Identify relevant educational and professional development opportunities available through the Oncology Nursing Society.

7.8 contact hours will be awarded to nurses who attend the course in its entirety and complete the course evaluation. ONS is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. ONS is also accredited by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number 2850.

This program may qualify for ONC-PRO points needed for your ONCC certification renewal.
