Evaluating Review Articles

Before a research synthesis is used for evidence-based projects, it needs to be evaluated. Such a critique should include the following:
  • process that was used to search for and find the research studies
  • rationale for including the specific studies
  • level of evidence of research studies included
  • appropriateness of the practice recommendations.

Based upon several published critiquing guides (Oxman, et al. 1994; Stetler, et al. 1998; Brown, 1999), please review the basic outline for this type of critique.
